Unique Decomposition of Processes

چکیده
Mimer, R. and F. Moller, Unique decomposition of processes, Theoretical Computer Science 107 (1993) 357-363. In this paper, we examine questions about the prime decomposability of processes, where we define a process to be prime whenever it cannot be decomposed into nontrivial components. We show that any finite process can be uniquely decomposed into prime processes with respect to bisimulation equivalence, and demonstrate counterexamples to such a result for both failures (testing) equivalence and trace equivalence. Although we show that prime decompositions cannot exist for arbitrary infinite processes, we motivate but leave as open a conjecture on the unique decomposability of a wide subclass of infinite behaviours.

Unique Parallel Decomposition for the Pi-calculus
A (fragment of a) process algebra satisfies unique parallel decomposition if the definable behaviours admit a unique decomposition into indecomposable parallel components. In this paper we prove that finite processes of the π-calculus, i.e. processes that perform no infinite executions, satisfy this property modulo strong bisimilarity and weak bisimilarity. Our results are obtained by an applic...
متن کاملAccelerated decomposition techniques for large discounted Markov decision processes
Many hierarchical techniques to solve large Markov decision processes (MDPs) are based on the partition of the state space into strongly connected components (SCCs) that can be classified into some levels. In each level, smaller problems named restricted MDPs are solved, and then these partial solutions are combined to obtain the global solution. In this paper, we first propose a novel algorith...
متن کاملDecomposition orders another generalisation of the fundamental theorem of arithmetic
We discuss unique decomposition in partial commutative monoids. Inspired by a result from process theory, we propose the notion of decomposition order for partial commutative monoids, and prove that a partial commutative monoid has unique decomposition iff it can be endowed with a decomposition order. We apply our result to establish that the commutative monoid of weakly normed processes modulo...
متن کاملOn Unique Decomposition of Processes in the Applied π-Calculus
Unique decomposition has been a subject of interest in process algebra for a long time (for example in BPP [2] or CCS [10, 12]), as it provides a normal form with useful cancellation properties. We provide two parallel decomposition results for subsets of the Applied π-Calculus: We show that a closed finite process P can be decomposed uniquely into prime factors Pi with respect to weak labeled ...
متن کاملOn the existence and decidability of unique decompositions of processes in the applied π-calculus
Unique decomposition has been a subject of interest in process algebra for a long time (for example in BPP [1] or CCS [2, 3]), as it provides a normal form and useful cancellation properties. We provide two parallel decomposition results for subsets of the applied π-calculus: we show that every closed normed (i.e. with a finite shortest complete trace) process P can be decomposed uniquely into ...
